Description

Oxandrolone, commonly known as Anavar, is a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid (AAS) derived from dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It was developed in the 1960s with legitimate medical purposes, including the treatment of muscle wasting, severe weight loss after illness or surgery, and certain conditions causing catabolic states.

Compared with many other oral steroids, Oxandrolone is considered to have a relatively favorable safety profile, with lower androgenic activity and reduced risk of estrogen-related side effects. However, like all 17α-alkylated oral steroids, it can still pose risks to the liver and cardiovascular system.

Pharmacology:

  • Form: Oral tablets

  • Half-life: ~9–10 hours

  • Chemical class: 17α-alkylated DHT derivative

  • Key characteristic: Minimal estrogenic activity; lower androgenic impact compared to testosterone derivatives

Risks & Side Effects:
While regarded as milder than many anabolic steroids, Oxandrolone can still cause adverse effects, such as:

  • Liver stress (though less hepatotoxic than stronger compounds)

  • Hormonal suppression and reduced natural testosterone production

  • Altered cholesterol levels and cardiovascular strain

  • Possible hair loss or acne (androgenic effects, depending on individual sensitivity)
